Forever 37. An AZ native, that proudly served for 18 1/2 years from Aug 2020-Dec 2018. Ironically just hours before he passed he was laying wreaths on fellow veteran's graves. We have carried on that tradition eversince. He was only 18 months away from retiring following 20 years of honorable and dedicated service. A quiet and humble soul. So close to retirement. So close to coming home. But instead if a retirement ceremony and a homecoming party, he received a dignified transfer. He was a loyal son, brother, uncle, sailor, and friend until the end. Whitt, of the 35th Infantry Division, was captured on August 21, 1944 at the age of 22. He spent the next 9 months in Stalag XII A as a P.O.W. Out of the nine men captured, PFC Whitt was the only survivor. Upon his Honorable discharge as a Corporal in 1945, Mr. Whitt worked as a coal miner and a shipbuilder, further supporting the country he loved.</div><a class='btn btn-primary btn-sm mt-2 remember-wall-toggle-long-description' onclick='initRememberWallToggleLongDescriptionBtn(this)'>Learn more</a> William T.
