Trucking Tributes with Ken Goss

Ken Goss does not consider himself part of the trucking industry. In his opinion, that term is limited to over-the-road drivers. However, he has hands-on experience in commercial driving with a variety of vehicles, including cement mixers, dump trucks, cranes and sleeper cabs, which contradicts his statement. In Goss’ experience, the trucking industry is more than just 18-wheelers: it can be a lifeline.

This week on Trucking Tributes, host Elisabeth Barna welcomes Goss, safety manager of George A. Kint Company and member of the Pennsylvania Motor Truck Association.

Goss became a volunteer firefighter at 15. In addition to his volunteer work, he transported radioactive material, explosives, and dairy products. Later, he became an EMT, working 80 to 120-hour weeks, and left the trucking industry behind.

After a tragic loss in his family, Goss could not continue his exhaustive work as an EMT. “That was my identity, and knowing that I couldn’t do it anymore, I just did not want to be part of anybody’s worst day,” Goss said. Goss was faced with the terrifying question: What is next?

He was emotionally drained from grief and in need of a lifeline. Miraculously, Goss’ brother told him about a job opening at his company. He relocated to Pennsylvania with his wife and returned to the trucking industry in 2018. “I may not be able to be a part of someone’s worst day, but I’m happy to be a part of someone’s best day,” Goss said. He has helped secure sponsorships for Wreaths Across America since 2024 and remains involved with the mission. “And if I can help you create your best day, then even better,” he said.

Tune in to Trucking Tributes on Wreaths Across America Radio’s Trucking Tuesday at 10 a.m. and again at 4 p.m. EST to hear more about Goss’ personal journey and his involvement in the trucking industry. You can also listen on demand on SoundCloud here.
