Trucking Tributes with Adam Schweikert

Before trading spreadsheets for the open road, Adam Schweikert spent his career as an accountant and Chief Financial Officer, living a traditional 9-to-5 lifestyle. But in 2017, he made a bold change, retiring from finance to pursue his passion for trucking!

This week on Trucking Tributes, host Don Queeney sits down with Schweikert, now a professional driver with Ratta Trucking and a first-time member of the Wreaths Across America Honor Fleet. Together, they discuss his journey into trucking and the meaningful role drivers play in honoring veterans each December.

After retiring, Schweikert wasted no time getting started. He purchased a truck, completed his training, and joined Ratta Trucking, where he now hauls asphalt cement in a tanker. But his involvement didn’t stop there. In 2025, he partnered with friend Grant Schilling to expand his efforts, purchasing a refrigerated trailer and joining the mission to transport veterans’ wreaths across the country.

In his very first year with the Honor Fleet, Schweikert took on an ambitious schedule, completing 12 delivery stops. Queeney noted that it was an impressive undertaking for a first-time carrier, but Schweikert embraced the challenge. He shared that the experience is made easier and more meaningful by the dedication and support of volunteers along the route.

Even with a demanding delivery schedule, Schweikert made time to fully experience the event. During his visit, he toured Balsam Valley Farm, attended the parade, and connected with fellow drivers in the driver’s lounge, taking in all that the week had to offer.

When asked why other drivers should consider participating, Schweikert pointed to the camaraderie and hospitality. “Think of it as a vacation,” he said with a smile. Queeney joked about the “vacation” taking place during a Maine winter, prompting laughter from both.

By the end of the conversation, Queeney had one final question: whether Schweikert would be keeping December 19, 2026, open for another run. His answer was simple: “Absolutely.”
