He was assigned to the 405th Bomber Group in the European Theater, actively serving during the Normandy Invasion, the Battle of the Bulge and other military conflicts. He served as an Airplane and Engine Mechanic before receiving a promotion to Crew Chief on a P-47 Aircraft.
