Welcome to the VA1064P - American Legion, Harold J Davis Post 247's Wreaths Across America Page.
On December 13, 2025 at 10:00 am, VA1064P - American Legion, Harold J Davis Post 247 will be helping Southern Fauquier Cemeteries to Remember and Honor our veterans by laying Remembrance wreaths on the graves of our country's fallen heroes.
Please help us honor and remember as many fallen heroes as possible by sponsoring remembrance wreaths, volunteering on Wreaths Day, or inviting your family and friends to attend with you.
Our ceremony will be held at Remington Cemetery starting at 10 AM located at 11910 Cemetery Road, Remington, VA.

In Memory Of for Lenny Kaneshiro, United States Military, Honored by Southern Fauquier Cemeteries
Leonard Tetsuo Kaneshiro, age 83 of Warrenton, VA passed away on October 7, 2025. He was a Kama?aina from Hawaii and full of aloha. Lenny honorably served his country in the U.S. Army from 1962 to 1965 in the Signal Corp. He was a retired computer programmer who provided his skills and expertise to many. A member of the American Legion #247 in Remington and enjoyed his time mentoring young men at the annual American Legion Boys State. A member of Grace Bible Church, Marshall, VA. He was a master tinkerer repairing many broken things and helped his church in sound ministry. He instilled a curiosity in his children to understand how things around us worked and the spirit of service to others.Len was active in American Legion Remington, Harold J. Davis Post 247 for 19 years. He served as the Post Chaplain during Robert Yowell’s tenure as Post Commander. Lenny was also active as a counselor at Boys State for four years. Lenny was always quick with a kind word and brought much Aloha to our Post Ohana.

A Tribute
by Harold J. Davis, Remington American Legion Post 247 for Evan H Ashby Jr., MD, Army, Honored by Southern Fauquier Cemeteries
Dr. Ashby attended John Barton Payne High School and Randolph Macon College, and received his medical degree from the University of Virginia in 1951. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and a lifetime member of the American Legion. While in Remington, he practiced family medicine and attended the births of more than 1,600 babies. He also served on the Remington Town Council, as mayor of Remington and as a member of the Fauquier County Board of Supervisors. He served as chief of the medical staff at Fauquier Hospital in 1968. Dr. Ashby was medical advisor for athletic teams at Fauquier High School from 1963 to 1969. In 1969, he was named director of Medical Services at Appalachian State University in North Carolina and continued in that position until his retirement in 1991. While at ASU, Dr. Ashby continued his love of working with young athletes and sports teams and never missed an ASU football game. An avid photographer, he took thousands of pictures of the sports teams, wildlife and medical services. Dr. Ashby was a medical examiner in North Carolina and Virginia until his 85th birthday. He was a founding member of the Remington American Legion Post 247, and a charter member of the Remington Volunteer Rescue Squad and served in the fire department. He also was a member of the Watauga County Rescue Squad where he served a stint as chief. After his retirement, he moved to Fancy Gap and continued his love of emergency services by becoming a member of the Cana Volunteer Fire Department. He served as president of the Remington Lions Club and a member of the North Caroline AIDS Task Force, and was a professor emeritus at Appalachian State.

We are happy that you are willing to help with our Wreath Across America ceremony at Southern Fauquier Cemeteries. Please do not forget to register to volunteer! That way you will get all updates about the cemetery itself.
Here are some things to remember about the ceremony:
- Everyone of all ages and backgrounds is welcome.
- Please help ensure that all participants get the opportunity to place a wreath.
- Please follow the location coordinators instructions on where to place wreaths, as well as "how" they should be placed.
- We especially appreciate volunteers willing to help clean-up. Please check in with the location coordinator if you are interested in helping with the clean-up.
The most important thing to remember is to have a wonderful experience participating in the ceremony and thank you so much for help Wreaths achieve our mission to remember, honor and teach.
