Wreaths Across America Presents the 2025 Founder’s Award Posthumously to Veteran and Volunteer Patrick Palmersheim of Iowa

On December 12, as part of its Annual Appreciation Dinner and Rally on the eve of National Wreaths Across America Day, nonprofit Wreaths Across America (WAA) posthumously recognized veteran and longtime Iowa volunteer Patrick Palmersheim as the 2025 recipient of the Founder’s Award.

Nearly 5,600 Locations Nationwide Honor Veterans with Remembrance Wreaths on National Wreaths Across America Day 2025

Today, National Wreaths Across America Day took place at 5,598 participating locations nationwide. Volunteers placed over 3.1 million sponsored veterans’ wreaths. At Arlington National Cemetery, over 30,000 volunteers helped place wreaths at 265,000 gravesites.

Wreaths Across America helps ensure we never forget

Gold Star families are a reminder of the service and ultimate sacrifice of our nation’s service members and families. We owe this family a debt we can never repay. Never forget that Sgt. Johnston paid the ultimate sacrifice defending what we hold most dearly as Americans.

Wreaths event to honor fallen Galveston soldier

This year, seven ceremonial wreaths will be placed by representatives from each branch of the service and a special tribute will be paid to the family of U.S. Army Sgt. James Gregory “Jamie” Johnston, formerly of Galveston, who was killed in action in June while serving in Afghanistan. Johnston’s wife, Krista, and infant daughter, Jamie, born on Veterans Day after her father’s death, will attend the ceremony. Meghan Billiot, Johnston’s mother and a Galvestonian, will be there too, to honor her son and the sons and daughters of other families.

Local Effort Underway to Support Wreaths Across America

I am proud to be part of a community in Galveston, Texas that honors its heroes. Whether it’s former Constable Clint Wayne Brown playing TAPS as an entire cruise ship spontaneously applauds this past Veterans Day or Commander Michael Caballero leading the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 880, Galveston has a special way of ensuring our Veterans are not forgotten

Ball High students practice for Wreaths Across America

Ball High School’s Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps cadets have been practicing drill and ceremony before a Wreaths Across America event Saturday. The color guard and drill team will return to Lakeview Cemetery for the event’s second year.
