A Tribute
by Nancy Solohubow for James Boren, Marine Corps, Honored by Clifton Memorial Park

We honor and remember James Boren's service in the South Pacific in WWII. We also remember his friend, John Charlton Holladay, who died July 20, 1943 on New Georgia in the Solomon Islands. Five minutes after Boren was sent from the last in line to the middle of the jungle patrol John, now the last in line, was shot by a Japanese sniper.

Ceremony and Volunteer Information

We are happy that you are willing to help with our Wreath Across America ceremony at Clifton Memorial Park. Please do not forget to register to volunteer! That way you will get all updates about the cemetery itself.

We will have  a ceremony at Clifton Cemetery at 11am.  Enter Clifton Cemetery and park in  the field that is half way back on the Trinity Lutheran side of the cemetery..  Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery is the north entrance and Clifton Cemetery is the south  entrance.  The ceremony will be held toward the center of the cemetery by the flag pole.. After the ceremony  the volunteers for Clifton Memorial Park will proceed to that cemetery to place the wreaths, that have been placed along the road way.  Veterans flags will be marked with a small electrical flag.  Most of the flags will be red.  The green flags are on the graves where the family of the fallen will place the wreath.

Here are some things to remember about the ceremony:

  • Everyone of all ages and backgrounds is welcome.
  • Please help ensure that all participants get the opportunity to place a wreath.
  • Please follow the location coordinators instructions on where to place wreaths, as well as "how" they should be placed.
  • We especially appreciate volunteers willing to help clean-up. Please check in with the location coordinator if you are interested in helping with the clean-up.

The most important thing to remember is to have a wonderful experience participating in the ceremony and thank you so much for help Wreaths achieve our mission to remember, honor and teach.
