His aircraft came under attack, was severely damaged and was going to be making a crash landing. The B-24 crashed into a Dutch bell tower in a cemetery and exploded into a million pieces killing 7 of the 10 aircrew members. 4 of the aircrew are buried together in Memphis National Cemetery, they are: 1LT John Harold Allen (Pilot), 2LT Anthony Louis. Destro (Bombardier), TSgt Oscar Robbins, Jr. (Aerial Gunner & Engineer), and TSgt James Carl Owens (Aerial Gunner & Engineer).
