"Chick" Rainear, Army<br/>Posted by: Kit Stahler-Miller<br/><div class='remember-wall-long-description'>For the Rainear and Stahler families of that time (7 sons who were brothers and cousins) … Honoring Charles J. “Chick” Rainear, Army Air Corps Fighter Pilot, 2nd Lt., who was shot down over Sicily. He flew the P38 Lockheed “Lightening” - the ‘Cadillac’ of USAAF fighters in WWII. Chick had led his P38 fighters in the attack. After hitting their target, another bomber’s engines malfunctioned. Chick saw the predicament and immediately assumed the dangerous responsibility of escorting home a crippled and slowed-down comrade. They were alone, as the rest of the squadron had disappeared from sight over the horizon on their way back to the base. Suddenly, 4 Italian Maachi 202 fighters dove out of the clouds and attacked Chick and his wingman. In the process, a Maachi had slipped onto Chick’s tail and his P38 burst into flames. The pilot he was trying to save bailed out and was captured by German soldiers and sent to Stalag Luft III. Chick’s plane and remains were never recovered. He is honored in the North African American Cemetery and Memorial in Carthage, Tunis Tunisia on the Memorial Wall of the Missing …”HERE ARE RECORDED THE NAMES OF AMERICANS WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES IN THE SERVICE OF THEIR COUNTRY AND WHO SLEEP IN UNKNOWN GRAVES 1941-1945. <i class="material-icons" data-template="memories-icon">stars</i><br/>Colonel John Neilson , Army<br/>Posted by: Kit Stahler-Miller<br/><div class='remember-wall-long-description'>Kit’s 4th great grandfather, Colonel John Neilson, was a noted patriot in the Continental Army and Revolutionary War. In July 1776, Congress ordered that copies of the signed Declaration of Independence be sent from Philadelphia to commanding officers of the Continental troops to be publicly read in key cities of the thirteen states. Col. John Neilson was chosen to conduct one of the first readings of this historically exhilarating moment based upon his involvement and leadership in New Brunswick, NJ. Despite the threat of violent opposition to the public reading, Neilson was fearless and read the document with emphasis and pride. The reading was met with loud cheers and was one of the greatest moments in New Brunswick’s history. On July 9, 2017 – 241 years later, a statue of Col.
