He joined up right after Pearl Harbor was hit and was on the USS Maryland. While on the USS Maryland it was hit two times by the enemy. <i class="material-icons" data-template="memories-icon">cloud</i><br/>SRA Stephen "Scott" Brake, Air Force<br/><div class='remember-wall-long-description'>Upon graduating from high school, Scott entered the U.S. Air Force and was stationed at McConnell Air Force Base in Wichita, Kansas where he served as a Military Policeman (MP) . In 1989, Scott was transferred to Hahn Air Force Base in Hahn, Germany where he served another three years attaining the E4 rank as a Security Specialist. While there, Scott was also able to fulfill his duty and achieved success by completing training that led to him becoming part of the elite Air Force SWAT team. Scott received the Air Force Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Air Force Training Ribbon, Air Force Longevity Service Medal, Air Force Overseas Long Tour Ribbon, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award. He also had security specialist training, Machine Gunner Specialist training and Air Force Ground Defense Training. Family meant the world to Scott, and as he learned more about his lineage, he took the opportunity to join the Ozark Mountain Chapter, Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) in 2013. On April 13, 2024, Scott was able to transfer that membership to the newly created Josiah Howell SAR Chapter, West Plains, Missouri as one of its Charter Members. <i class="material-icons" data-template="memories-icon">stars</i><br/>Travis Clennon, Army<br/><div class='remember-wall-long-description'>Travis Clennon enlisted in the US Army while still in high school on the Buddy Program with his best friend Shawn Owens in June, 2003. His squad won the division weapons squad completion for the 4th Brigade, 4th Infantry Division. Travis was retired Medically on September 27, 2012 due to the injuries he sustained in Afghanistan. He was one of the first group of patients that went though the Heroes On The Water Program. After completing almost two years as a participant he opened his own Chapter at Fort Hood, TX and served as President. Travis was recipient of the first Quilt of Valor that Ozark Spring Chapter, NSDAR awarded. Travis we are so proud of you and all of your accomplishments. He was in CO C 114th ENGR BN and served overseas in Japan. He was Honorable Discharged at Fort Sheridan, Illinois August 13, 1946. He received the Victory Medal, Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon, 1 Overseas Service Bar and the Good Conduct Medal. Everett return to his home town of Winona, Missouri and his beautiful wife and raised his family there. S. Navy in 1988 and served during the Gulf War. Floyd did his Basic Training in California and then went to Norkfolk, Virginia. He was stationed on a destroyer, tender ship as a machinist. He was stationed on the USS Yellowstone. He went to Saudi Arabia and lots of other places in the Persian Gulf during that time. He was honorably discharged in 1992. He also served with the U. S. Navy Reserve and the Army National Guards. Floyd we are so proud of your service to our Country. Wallace joined the US Navy when he was just 15 lying about his age during WWII. He was in three major invasions before he was 16 years old. He told a friend that he saw the sea turn red with Americans blood. He returned home to his home town of West Plains, Missouri and lived the rest of his life there fishing on all of his favorite lakes. Thank you Dad for all the things you endured. Upon graduation from basic training, he was assigned to the Naval Technical Training Center, Pensacola, Florida. He attributes his family’s patriotic service as his reason for joining, but not the Army as did his family before him. He attributes the Navy recruiter’s natural ability and ease of conversation as one reason he chose the Navy over the other branches of service. His career spanned 28 years, during which time he served in numerous stateside locations and overseas. His best advice to anyone thinking of joining the military is to take advantage of every opportunity and resource, and to “never accept defeat.” To those already in the military, he advises, “people are your greatest asset,” and “never expect what you wouldn’t do yourself.” Devin’s personal awards include the Air Medal (1 Strike/Flight award), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation medal (5), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement medal, Joint Service Achievement medal and various other unit and service awards. He was on the ship during the Cuban Missile Crisis (Bay of Pigs) October 16-28, 1963. He then went to Vietnam and fought in the invasion of the Mekong Delta where the boat he drove was hit by mortar. He spent many hours in the water while injured. When he was rescued, he was sent to Hawaii to heal and recover and then reassigned to the USS Long Beach. Chuck was part of the first around the world cruise without refueling (first Naval Nuclear Task Force). In 1965 he was honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy and he was always very proud of his service and his Country. Thank you Chuck for all you did for your Country and our family.
