Charles "Chuck" Antel, Sr, Navy, Served from 1963, Born 12/26/1945, Passed on 8/24/2017, Posted by: Nina Hensley-Antel & Family
Chuck joined the U.S. Navy in 1963 and was stationed on the USS Long Beach, the Navy's first nuclear-powered missile cruiser. He was on the ship during the Cuban Missile Crisis (Bay of Pigs) October 16-28, 1963. He then went to Vietnam and fought in the invasion of the Mekong Delta where the boat he drove was hit by mortar. He spent many hours in the water while injured. When he was rescued, he was sent to Hawaii to heal and recover and then reassigned to the USS Long Beach. Chuck was part of the first around the world cruise without refueling (first Naval Nuclear Task Force). In 1965 he was honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy and he was always very proud of his service and his Country. Thank you Chuck for all you did for your Country and our family. Love Nina & Family
