In Memoriam
by Charlene Shufelt for James Shufelt, Army, Honored by Beaufort National Cemetery
In loving memory of my beloved husband Jim for sharing 34 years of a perfect marriage and in recognition of his service to Our Country. Jim retired in 1987 as Brigadier General after 32 years of active service. During his final years on active duty he was responsible for the oversight of the department of Defense Vietnam POW/MIA Mission under President Reagan. He worked in coordination with the Executive Director/CEO, National League of POW/MIA Families. He participated in Wreaths Across America at Beaufort National Cemetery, escorting the wreath in honor of POW/MIAs. He never forgot. He was also instrumental in saving South Carolina's military bases during the 2006 Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) for which he received the Order of the Palmetto. It is the highest award given to a civilian by the Governor of South Carolina.
