February PR Tip of the Month

Wreaths Across America’s mission depends on invaluable volunteers like you. You can help us reach even more people about our mission by spreading the word through your local media. Below are some tips to help you work with local media to successfully gain more exposure for your location.

Don't be shy: Your efforts deserve to be recognized. Being proactive with media outreach is the best way to gain visibility within your community. Don't be afraid to reach out to local newspapers and broadcast stations directly. An occasional friendly phone call or email can go a long way.

Make an effort to build relationships with the press: Building relationships with your local media can help increase coverage and the chances of your stories and announcements being published.

Look for opportunities to share announcements: Take advantage of related events and holidays throughout the year to promote Wreaths Across America. Holidays like Memorial Day and Veterans Day are great opportunities to raise awareness about Wreaths Across America’s mission. Reporters are always looking for opportunities for coverage that ties in with current events and are more open to writing about local events than you’d think.

Tried and true: One of the most effective ways to share your efforts with the media is to send press releases. You can gain coverage by sending timely and pertinent press releases. You can find easy to use fillable press release templates on our volunteer resource page.
