My father participated in all five battles in Europe during WWII (Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe). He landed first wave on Normandy Beach and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He was a radio operator and received the Bronze Star Medal for risking his life to repair the lines during active fire. He carried the 30 pound radio in all of the five campaigns he fought in. After his discharge from the military, he was a very patriotic American for his entire life, serving as an officer in the American Legion and the 40 & 8 and helping with fundraising to establish the Fort Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.
