2025 So Far
James (“Jim”) Michael Callina, 76, of Stockbridge, Georgia, peacefully passed away on March 31, 2021 with his two loving daughters by his side. His death was not related to COVID-19.
Jim was born in Medford, Mass. to Paul and Agnes (née Morrissey) Callina, both of whom proceeded him in death. Although Jim was married a few times, his true love was Constance (“Connie”) Callina (née Small), with whom he shared 27 years of marital bliss. Although Connie passed away in 2010, his love for her was unwavering.
Jim worked for Eastern Airlines until its demise. He then went on to become an over-the-road truck driver until he retired in 2018. He loved driving a truck, and he even brought his grandchildren on trips during the summer when they were young. He loved our country and was passionate in sharing all it had to offer to anyone who was willing to go with him. From the Grand Canyon to the Corn Palace in North Dakota, he saw it all. He most likely traveled on every highway in the continental US. His corny jokes and off-tune singing were a delight to everyone. Jim never forgot a birthday and never passed up an opportunity to call and sing (badly). He always had a smile on his face and a kind word to say. He had a love for animals, and family always came first.
Jim leaves behind his beloved animal companions, Miss Sandi and Daddy Cat, and children Darnell Holbrook (Noah), Gail Allen (Johnny), Mike Landers (Cyndi), Ron Landers, Lori Parker (Donnie), Sherri Katafias (Mark), Linda Landers, and Scott Landers (Marsha). He had nine brothers and sisters, three of whom preceded him in death: Joe Callina (Faye), Janice Callina, Nancy Callina, Paul Callina (Pat), Peter Callina (Tina), John Callina (Leone), Tony Callina (Debi), Edie Marks (Bob), and MaryAnn Nicosia (Jack).
Jim was always happiest when surrounded by his family and friends. He was a rare combination of someone who had a love of life and a firm understanding of what was important: the simplicity of living a life with those you love. Jim lived and loved unselfishly and always helped those in need, even to his own detriment. The world is a better place because of him.
Jim will be laid to rest next to his wife at Georgia National Cemetery next week. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Jim’s honor to Wreaths Across America, an organization dedicated to remembering our fallen US veterans, honoring those who serve, and teaching children the value of freedom. Adopting a pet or supporting your local animal shelter or Humane Society would also be a great way to honor Jim.
