Unfortunately, only a few of his oldest grandchildren were able to spend time with him before his early death. <i class="material-icons" data-template="memories-icon">account_balance</i><br/>Thomas Blades, Army<br/><div class='remember-wall-long-description'>SSG Thomas Blades served with C-Company in Vietnam starting Jan. 1968. He was awarded a Purple Heart in Feb.1968 for injuries. Tom then participated in"Operation Burlington Trail" . On June 3, 1968 while under attack, he lead his platoon to safety through an opening in a hedgerow. While waiting at the entrance to ensure a 2nd platoon made it to safety, he and 3 others were killed by motar fire. Tom was phosthumously awarded the Bronze Star for his heroic actions. We are forever grateful for his courage and service to our country.
