We honor those who died while serving the USA. Ross McGinnis comes quickly to my mind. Clarion County can never forget, as we tragically lost a hero. Using the word "hero" just doesn't seem adequate to describe this young man, in the prime of his life, and his sacrifice that day to save his fellow soldiers. Ross was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for his courage and valor. The highest honor in our military. ADAM HETRICK - COMPANIES B and C 78th PENNSYLVANIA VOLUNTEER INFANTRY REGIMENT MEMORIAL SERVICE RECORD The framed picture of the easel shaped monument bearing the Civil War service record of Adam Hetrick was dedicated to him on July 20, 1894 by his wife, Mary .This memorial lists the battles Hetrick took part ranging from Stone’s River, TN in late 1862 to Buzzard’s Roost Gap, GA to Franklin, TN in late 1864. He suffered several injuries during his time of service and they are noted in the memorial. Hetrick was honorably discharged from service on June 19, 1865 as a member of Company B of the 78th Regiment, Second Regimental Organization. He is buried in the Middle Run Cemetery, in Redbank Township, in Clarion County. Adam Hetrick’s framed Civil War service record, Civil War diary, portrait, homestead picture, platform rocker, (shown in the homestead picture), leather sack, and bullet mold were donated to the Armstrong County Historical Museum and Genealogical Society</div><a class='btn btn-primary btn-sm mt-2 remember-wall-toggle-long-description' onclick='initRememberWallToggleLongDescriptionBtn(this)'>Learn more</a> Adam Hetrick , Army

He continued supporting veterans in many advocacy positions throughout his life. Major John S. Nimmon, of Lancaster county, and Samuel R. Strattan, of Clarion county, led the first squadron of cavalry, which were the first troops in sight at Appomattox Court House on the day of the surrender of the Confederate army under General R.E. Lee, April 9, 1865. And it is worthy of note, that at Appomattox, a Clarion county boy, Lieutenant James H. Clover, in charge of the commissary department was the first man on the field with his wagons, and distributed twenty-five thousand rations to the hungry and defeated Confederates. <i class="material-icons" data-template="memories-icon">account_balance</i><br/>Walter Greenland, Army<br/><div class='remember-wall-long-description'> Honoring Walter Greenland, he brought the cannon to the park across from the courthouse. W.W., enlisted at age 15 discharged by Governor Curtin on account of age. He enlisted again and mustered into the United States service at Harrisburg, Pa. Company C of the 125th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry Walter fought at the Battle of Antietam. He carried the flag as "Color Sergeant" after two prior Color Sergeants had been shot down. He was wounded in the left ankle on September 17, 1862 but survived his injury. Walter was widely known for his connection with the state National Guard. He entered the guard as a "Private" of Co. G, 16th Reg on February 7, 1880. By August 3, 1880, he was promoted to "Sergeant-Major". Walter became appointed "First Lieutenant" and Regimental Quartermaster" on August 1, 1881. He was then reappointed as "Quartermaster" on May 18, 1884. Walter was then elected as "Major and finally Adjunct General. <i class="material-icons" data-template="memories-icon">account_balance</i><br/>Rick Weaver, Navy<br/>Posted by: Noreen Shirey<br/><div class='remember-wall-long-description'> This year marks the 35th anniversary of the attack on the USS Stark. Clarion Hometown Rick was able to help many of his shipmates to safety before he died of his wounds. The Stark was fired upon by an Iraqi aircraft. The first missile struck the port side of the ship near the bridge. Although it failed to detonate, rocket fuel ignited and caused a large fire. The second missile also struck the port side, leaving a 10 by 15 ft hole. Standard Missile defense went out and Captain Brindel could not order his men to return fire. A total of 37 crew were killed in the attack, 29 from the initial explosion and fire, including two lost at sea. Eight later died from their injuries. Twenty-one others survived their wounds. Story was that recruitment came back to Clarion PA needing men. They men were told that Lee would be back and they expected him to come for Fort Pitt and he won he would be in Clarion County in no time, They urged men to join so they could fight outside of their backyard.</div><a class='btn btn-primary btn-sm mt-2 remember-wall-toggle-long-description' onclick='initRememberWallToggleLongDescriptionBtn(this)'>Learn more</a> Thomas Brinkley, Army
