Jim served in WWII, was wounded on the Island Fiji. As the Japanese scoured the island, bayoneting all the wounded, Jim lay very still. He was bayoneted, but a 50cent coin he had in his left pocket saved his life. He often showed the coin to my children. One of my sons was married with three children, having trouble making it on his small salary. Jim would drop by their house with groceries, stating that a family man needs nourishment to be able to work, support his family. Often, there were toys for the children. He was a very compassionate man, felt his life had been spared for a reason, when all died around him. To this day, my children talk about this caring man. RIP, Jim. Hoorah!!!
