Directions to Cemetery
To date, 2020 has been a vastly different year in many ways, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which has affected all communities across the country. For those locally who have participated in the Wreaths Across America (WAA) mission at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery (IGNC), the amended event will indeed look different, but accomplish the same goal as in years past, to Remember, Honor and Teach.
As WAA’s Executive Director Karen Worcester said “Wreaths Across America Day 2020 will happen, however it will look much different.”
With that in mind, the planning for this year’s event has involved frequent communication and coordination with WAA – HQ, IGNC Administration, and the Volunteer Location Coordinator and Core Team of WAA-IGNC, and follows CDC recommended health and safety guidelines. The National Cemetery Administration governs what can/will happen at IGNC, along with the Administration of IGNC.
Saturday, December 19th, there will not be a live Ceremony this year. It will be pre-recorded and sent out to media stations, as well as be played on our Facebook page at noon ET, with a link on the Wreaths Across America Indiantown Gap Facebook page.

Due to crowd-size restrictions, wreath placement will also look a lot different. We are limited to the number of volunteers able to be on the Cemetery at one time. For that reason, the decision has been made to not open the wreath placement to the general public. Instead, wreath placement will be completed by yearly Wreath Distribution and Security Teams, along with Sponsorship Groups (first come, first served), to fill in time slots throughout the day, beginning at 7:00 AM.
Grave Specific wreaths will be available only on Wednesday, Dec. 16, Thursday, Dec. 17, and Friday, Dec. 18, from 9 am until 5 pm. WAA and IGNC ask that everyone adhere to the current CDC mask guidelines, and practice social distancing while picking up and placing your wreath(s) at your loved one’s grave. If you are not able to place your Grave Specific wreath, we will, as we have in the past, have someone place it on your behalf, and email a photograph to you. It’s important that you email wreathsindiantowngap@gmail.com to confirm your Grave Specific order, so we know where to email the photo.
After Grave Specific Wreaths are placed, each section will receive a number of wreaths, to be placed, at a minimum, in the front row(s) of each section. We are hopeful, that after two years of full coverage with a wreath on every grave, that would happen again in 2020. In the event there is not a wreath for every grave, a Penny Drive is being organized, so that a penny can be placed on any grave that doesn’t receive a wreath, as we say the veteran’s name, as we remember their life, service and sacrifice. Every name will be said – every veteran will be remembered.
Please note, masks and gloves are required for this event.
